It’s a crazy time right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, everyone is (or should be) washing their hands a lot more. I am diligently washing my hands, however, they are drying out like CRAZY! I’ve never seen nor felt my hands so dry. I realized I needed a remedy for this absurd dryness. Luckily, I found a combo that works. Here are my simple home remedies for dry hands.
Home Remedies for Dry Hands
The two remedies I’m going to discuss with you work the best when you use them together. One is a DIY and the other is must-have product that you can use daily, especially when you have dry hands from washing so often.
Remedy 1: DIY Hand Scrub
Why use a scrub? Scrubs are great for exfoliating skin. They take roughness away and remove dead skin cells, revealing soft, smooth, bright skin. You can buy scrubs at the store, but it’s super easy and cost effective to make them at home too.
I came across this amazing hand scrub at work when a coworker brought it in. I instantly loved it and asked her where it came from. She told me it was a hand scrub her daughter had made using only three products. I was astonished. It made my hands feel amazing and seemed to work better than any scrub I ever bought from the store.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This scrub uses baby products that may be harder to find due to the pandemic. If you don’t already have these products, please be mindful of parents who need them for their babies at this time and try the alternate scrub I have listed below that uses other ingredients. It’s a crazy time and we should all be considerate of others 🙂

Alternate Hand Scrub Recipe
Here’s a great alternate hand scrub that uses easy-to-find ingredients. You probably already have them!
Ingredients & Supplies
- Dish soap or liquid hand soap
- Granulated Sugar
- Jar or Container for storage
You don’t even need actual measurements for this scrub. That’s how simple it is! Just fill the jar you’re using 3/4 full with sugar. Fill the remaining space with the soap. Mix together. If needed, you can add more sugar. I like my scrubs slightly more grainy so they can exfoliate my skin well. Bottle it up and keep it next to the sink for use 2-3x a week.
Now that we’ve exfoliated our hands, it’s time for the next remedy!
Remedy 2: A product that adds moisture
It’s important to add moisture back to your skin at this point. This will help ensure that your hands stay soft, moisturized, and healthy looking. Regular lotion could do the trick, but I like to use a product that is specifically meant for hands. A good hand cream will work wonders. This particular product  seems to be the best hand cream for excessive hand washing. I’ve heard it’s also great for rough, working hands as well as calluses. It’s the  Jack Black Industrial Strength Hand Healer.
It’s a non-greasy cream that helps heal your hands, including hard calluses, cracked skin, and dry cuticles. It’s industrial strength, so it’s ideal for people who work with their hands a lot. It does have a Eucalyptus scent, so if you’re not a fan, you might want to skip this cream.
Another option is the O’Keefe’s Working Hands Hand Cream. I haven’t tried this one personally, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. It’s also less expensive than the Jack Black one.
Whichever one you choose, it’s important to keep using the cream everyday. It will help your hands immensely! You won’t need much at once; a little goes a long way. You will notice a difference almost immediately.
Overall, using these home remedies for dry hands will help immensely!
