I’m excited to share an awesome curling iron with you today. It’s very different from the curling irons you’re used to though. Keep reading to find out how it works and to see it in action.

Kiss InstaWave Automatic Curler

Retail price: $59.99
Available: Target & Ulta
What it does: Automatically curls hair quickly and easily without tangling.

How it’s used: After plugging the iron in, you choose your heat setting (high for tighter curls or low for looser curls) and let the iron heat up. The indicator light turns from red to blue when it’s ready to be used.

You hold it vertically next to your head and place a section of hair onto the prongs. Then press the left/right button in the direction you want the barrel to move. Your hair will catch and wind neatly around the barrel. Once the full length of your hair is wrapped around the barrel, you hold it for 3-10 seconds and then gently pull the iron straight down. Keep doing that until all of your hair is done!

My thoughts

I wasn’t sure how well this iron was going to work. I’ve used an automatic curler before but it was way different. That one pulled at my hair and wasn’t as simple to use. This one really does not tangle or pull at hair! It’s the most gentle hair tool I’ve ever used. The curls turn out beautifully too. It’s easy to use and it seems like it’s faster than a traditional curling iron.

One thing I’ve noticed, is that you have to hold it away from your head a little when curling a section of hair or the prongs will catch additional hair. However, even if that does happen, it’s not a big deal and it still doesn’t pull at your hair. The only downside is that if you hold the iron away from your head, the curls won’t start very high. My curls started around the tops of my ears. As a result, it doesn’t allow for much volume to be added to the crown. I would suggest teasing your hair or using a product to add volume to the top. Otherwise, I’m loving this iron for curling my hair!

Some additional things to note:

  • This iron works on short hair too!
  • It can easily be used by either hand and at any angle
  • The iron heats up to 420 F (max)
  • It automatically shuts off after 90 minutes
